Healthcare copywriting
Constantly evolving, the healthcare sector has seen a huge shift towards digital technologies and new approaches to patient care.
Patients are looking for timely access to conditions, symptoms and disease management. Equally, time-poor healthcare professionals need access to high-quality information about new health innovations.
As an experienced healthcare copywriter, I can help you with clear, accurate content marketing for both patient and clinical audiences.
An experienced healthcare copywriter
Over the past 10 years, I’ve written for all kinds of healthcare professionals and organisations – including Health Education England, eIntegrity (which licences NHS learning around the world), medical diagnostics companies, clinical trials teams, the National Institute for Healthcare Research (NIHR) and the National Centre for Evidence-Based Dermatology.
Healthcare content that meets regulatory requirements
Healthcare content needs to be clear, straightforward and clinically accurate. You can’t risk confusion, ambiguity or, worse still, misinformation. I’ve written about everything from diabetes diagnostics to dementia and mental health issues. So, I know how to cut through the jargon and make your content understandable and digestible.
As an experienced healthcare copywriter, I also understand the strict regulations that come with healthcare marketing. And I’ll ensure that your content ticks all the right regulatory boxes.
Information for patients
I have particular expertise in writing communication materials for patients – and I’ve worked with numerous healthcare organisations to write recruitment materials for clinical trials, patient research studies and surveys.
For example, I’ve written website content for a major UK acne research study, commissioned by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. This is the first-ever UK trial of its kind to assess the effectiveness of spironolactone to treat moderate and severe acne – offering a potential alternative to antibiotic treatments.
I also advised the clinical trials team on their social media marketing and tactics to recruit volunteers using different social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook. The clinical trials team were able to recruit a large number of volunteers, partly as a result of the success of this social media marketing campaign.
Other patient-focused work has included:
- Drafting leaflets and email content on research about the role that community pharmacists could play in supporting the management of skin disorders. This was designed to encourage feedback from the general public, patients, pharmacists and healthcare professionals.
- Editing an online survey for the Citizen Advice initiative around skin tone and how this is currently described using the Fitzpatrick Scale (commonly used in clinical practice).
- Editing patient information materials and providing social media guidance for a study looking at whether online questionnaires are effective in measuring the symptoms of eczema.
- Advising on the communications aspects of various clinical trials, including a current study looking at the use of medicines in pregnancy.
- Providing training for the National Institute of Healthcare Research on how to use social media marketing to recruit volunteers for clinical trials.

National Institute for Healthcare Research
I designed and delivered a two-hour training session on social media marketing for the National Institute for Healthcare Research (NIHR). This focused on how to use social media to encourage greater public involvement in healthcare research. This focused particularly on Reels, Stories and paid advertising on Facebook and Instagram.
Salisbury Hospice Charity
I produced all the content for Salisbury Hospice Charity’s new website. Part of this work involved creating new content on the hospice for patients and their families – with information on, palliative care, therapies, accommodation and their hospice-at-home service.
The content needed to be written sensitively and explain their services in an empathetic and reassuring way.

Beaufort Care Group
I’ve produced all the copy for the Beaufort Care Group’s (BCG) new website. BCG provides high-quality residential care for children and young people with complex needs.
I worked closely with the team to ensure that the content reflected the unique strengths and selling points of each of their eight residential homes and supported accommodation across the south of England.
eIntegrity (Health Education England)
For the past eight years, I’ve worked with eIntegrity/Health Education England to promote NHS e-learning around the world. The profits from these sales are reinvested in the NHS.
When I started this work, NHS e-learning was only being licensed to a few countries. Now, it is being used in more than 100 countries.
As a healthcare copywriter for eIntegrity, I developed the website from scratch and managed major email marketing campaigns and content marketing. My articles have been republished by the NHS and also the Royal College of Anaesthetists, helping to bring eIntegrity to a wider audience.
I’ve also played a key role in getting eIntegrity’s social media marketing off the ground.
