Healthcare copywriting
Healthcare content has to do something most copy doesn’t: it has to be accurate enough for professionals, clear enough for patients and sensitive enough for people who may be frightened, grieving or in pain. That’s a specialist skill and what I do.
As an experienced healthcare copywriter, I turn complex information into engaging, accessible content for both clinical and patient audiences. I’ve written for Health Education England, NIHR, and private-sector businesses.
An experienced healthcare copywriter who understands the sector
Healthcare content falls into one of two traps: it either overloads readers with technical detail or oversimplifies to the point where accuracy is compromised. Getting that balance right, whether you’re writing for clinicians, patients, carers or the public, takes real experience.
I’ve spent over ten years writing for healthcare audiences across a wide range of topics, from dementia care and diabetes to mental health and diagnostics. Clients have included Health Education England, NIHR and NICE, alongside private sector businesses and charities.
Healthcare copywriting services
I have experience across many different areas, including:
Healthcare website copywriting – service pages, landing pages and complete healthcare websites.
Patient information – accessible information on conditions, treatments and care.
Healthcare blogs and articles – well-researched content for patient and professional audiences.
Healthcare brochures and publications –clear long-form communications for healthcare organisations and charities.
Healthcare research communications – content supporting NHS,NIHR, clinical research and public involvement.
Writing with care and empathy
I have particular expertise in writing patient-facing content on sensitive topics, including cancer, bereavement and mental health.
When someone is frightened, grieving or in pain, the words they encounter matter enormously. I pay close attention to tone and language, so that the content is clear without feeling cold and supportive without being patronising.
The goal is always to help patients understand what they’re facing and what comes next, without adding to the anxiety they’re already carrying.

Healthcare website copywriting for Quality Excellence (ISO consultancy)
Quality Excellence supports healthcare organisations with ISO certification and CQC compliance. When they launched, they needed website content that made genuinely complex, technical services feel clear and easy to understand to busy healthcare managers.
I developed the website content from scratch, translating detailed compliance and certification processes into plain, confident language that spoke directly to their audience. The results have been strong: Quality Excellence now ranks on the first page of Google for several key services, outranking established competitors.
Healthcare content marketing for eIntegrity (Health Education England)
For eight years I supported eIntegrity and Health Education England as they expanded NHS e-learning programmes to 144 countries worldwide.
To support that growth, I developed website content, ran targeted email campaigns, wrote brochures and campaign materials, managed social media content and produced a steady stream of feature articles and blogs for international audiences.
Several of those articles were picked up by the NHS, the Royal College of Anaesthetists and professional bodies overseas, helping build eIntegrity’s profile well beyond the UK.
Patient-focused website content for Beaufort Care Group
Beaufort Care Group provides residential care for children and young people with complex needs. When they launched a new website, they needed content that reflected the quality and sensitivity of their work while speaking clearly to the families and local councils they work with.
I developed the full website content, working to a tight deadline and to the client’s brief and tone of voice throughout.
My agency client said: “From the start, Karen got stuck in and produced the copy within the deadline provided and to the clients’ requirements and tone of voice. We are delighted with her work and so is the client.”
Healthcare copywriting for Salisbury Hospice Charity
Writing for a hospice is unlike almost any other copywriting brief. Your readers may be facing the end of their own life, or watching someone they love face it. The wrong word, the wrong tone, can make a frightened person feel worse rather than better.
For Salisbury Hospice Charity, I wrote all the website content including a patient hub covering palliative care, therapies and hospice-at-home services, choosing every word to inform without overwhelming and to reassure without being patronising.
Healthcare communications training for National Institute for Healthcare Research
I designed and delivered a two-hour social media marketing workshop for the NIHR, focusing on how to use Facebook and Instagram to boost public involvement in healthcare research. I showed how Reels, Stories and videos can help the NIHR reach a wider audience.
A few words from my lovely clients…
She always takes the time to understand every aspect and concept of your business, product or service before putting pen to paper. Karen’s copywriting and social media marketing skills have been invaluable to Inspire MediLaw. I highly recommend Karen.
I would not hesitate in recommending Karen to any organisation.
